To become a licensed Journeyman Electrician in West Virginia, you must meet specific requirements set by the State Fire Marshal's Office. This includes completing a vocational course of at least 1,080 hours, or a US Department of Labor approved formal apprenticeship program, or accumulating at least 2,000 hours (1 year) of hands-on electrical work experience. After meeting the experience or education prerequisite, you must pass the West Virginia Journeyman Electrician Exam, which is based on the National Electric Code. West Virginia does not currently require continuing education for electricians, and licenses must be renewed annually.
