To become a certified EMT in Mississippi, you must complete an approved EMT training program and pass the NREMT cognitive and psychomotor exams. The licensing body is the Mississippi State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or GED, and undergo a fingerprint-based background check. Additionally, a signed Jurisdictional Medical Control Agreement and current BLS-level CPR certification are required. Reciprocity is possible for NREMT-certified individuals, but a reciprocity agreement from the home state and a jurisdictional medical control agreement are necessary, and the state reserves the right to refuse reciprocity if the curriculum does not meet Mississippi guidelines.
