route How to become an hvac technician in Florida
To become a licensed HVAC Technician (Air Conditioning Contractor) in Florida, you must obtain a license from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), specifically through the Construction Industry Licensing Board. Key steps include meeting experience and education prerequisites (a minimum of four years of experience, with some college education potentially substituting for experience), passing both a trade knowledge exam and a business and finance exam, and submitting a comprehensive application. Applicants must also be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check, demonstrate financial responsibility, and provide proof of insurance. While Florida has some reciprocity agreements for other contractor types, HVAC contractors from other states may apply for licensure by endorsement if they have been licensed for 10 or more years, but they will still need to pass the Florida Business and Finance exam.
