To become a licensed Insurance Agent in Utah, individuals must be at least 18 years old, possess a Social Security Number, and be a Utah resident. While pre-licensing education is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended to prepare for the Utah Insurance Producer Licensing Exam. After passing the exam, applicants must undergo fingerprinting for a background check and submit an online application with the Utah Insurance Department. Licenses are renewed every two years, requiring 24 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of ethics and 12 hours of classroom or classroom-equivalent instruction. Utah generally offers reciprocity for non-resident licenses if the applicant's home state license is in good standing.
